My customer has a history of cancer; can I get Specified Illness Cover?
Depending on the type of cancer and years passed since treatment finished, we may be able to consider Specified Illness Cover in some select cases. My customer uses e-Cigarettes, will I be charged smoker rates?
Yes customers using nicotine replacement products including e- Cigarettes are classed as smokers.
My customer has Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, can they get Specified Illness Cover?
Irish Life can consider Specified Illness Cover for customers diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in some very select cases. Terms may be available where there is optimal control, no associated complications or other cardiovascular risk factors i.e. overweight, high blood pressure etc. We are unable to consider any Specified Illness Cover for customers with type 1 diabetes.
Why has my customer been asked to re-attend for a test following a recent medical exam?
In some cases your customer may be asked to re-attend for repeat blood pressure readings or re-checking a urinalysis. Usually the issue resolves on repeat examination. If any further investigations are required, your customer will be referred back to their GP.
FAMILY HISTORY
My customer is adopted, how do they answer the family history question?
We understand there are circumstances of estrangement where customers do not know of their parent or siblings health. In these instances the family history question can be answered no.
FINANCIAL
At what level will I need to provide financial evidence?

Do you include existing cover in your financial assessment?
Yes all existing business and personal cover is included in our financial underwriting.
GENERAL
My customer is moving abroad, will they still be on cover?
If your customer takes out a plan and then moves abroad, cover will continue once premiums are paid. This assumes that all known travel and residential details were disclosed at the application stage. It is also assumed that your customer is residing within the normal territorial limits please see your terms and conditions for more information.
What happens if there is a change in my health?
If your customer is diagnosed with a medical condition or their health changes after the plan commences, there is no need to advise underwriting as this will have no impact on their existing plans.
My customer has the results of a genetic test, what should I do?
Under the Disability Act 2005, we are unable to use any genetic test results in our underwriting assessment, please do not send these results in.
My customer has been rated, what does this mean?

My customer is unhappy with the underwriting decision next steps - what can I do?
Our underwriters can review decisions on receipt of a request from the customer or their GP, please provide an outline as to why their application should be reviewed, with any additional supporting medical evidence that is available.
