A brain tumour is any intracranial tumour created by an abnormal and uncontrolled cell division. They can be benign or malignant. Benign tumours are usually slow growing and rarely fatal, however they can cause problems due to the site and size which can exert undue pressure on the brain. Some benign tumours include an acoustic neuroma and benign schwannoma.
Malignant tumours invade the surrounding tissues. The most common are meningiomas and gliomas. Symptoms can vary widely, depending on the location and size of tumour - they can include headaches, dizziness, vomiting, problems with balance/hearing/speech, change in mood or personality or numbness in the face or limbs.
