This is a rare form of inflammation or clotting of the arteries and veins. Sometimes Buerger's disease is called arteritis. It mostly affects the outer limbs, i.e. the hands and feet, and typically occurs in young men who smoke. People who have been diagnosed with Buerger's disease and who continue to smoke face complications such as ulceration and gangrene, which may lead to amputation of the affected limb.
