Lupus is an inflammatory disease that occurs when your body’s immune system attacks your own tissues and organs. The skin, joints and muscles are most commonly affected. It can be chronic and relapsing and progress to involve the major internal organs. There are several different types of lupus; the main two types are SLE – Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and DLE – Discoid Lupus Erythematosus.
- SLE - Systemic lupus erythematosus is a chronic disease that can have phases of worsening symptoms that alternate with periods of mild symptoms. It can affect most of the body’s tissues and organs.
- DLE – Discoid lupus erythematosus is a chronic skin condition of sores with inflammation and scarring on the face, ears and scalp and at times on other body areas,
