Dialysis is the process of removing waste and excess water from the blood. It is used as an artificial replacement for lost kidney function in people with kidney failure. The process is generally continued for a number of hours, a number of times per week. It is used as a temporary solution until such time as a suitable kidney can be found for a transplant.
