Glomerulonephritis is a group of renal diseases characterised by inflammation of the glomeruli, or the small blood vessels in the kidneys. Nephrotic syndrome, IgA nephropathy and Berger's disease are all forms of glomerulonephritis. Symptoms can include blood or protein in the urine, hypertension and ankle swelling. In the chronic stages, the risk is gradual impairment of kidney function and raised blood pressure leading to kidney failure.
