Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, commonly known as CJD, is a very rare form of dementia. Some types of dementia can be transmitted and unlike Alzheimer’s disease, for example, CJD can be passed on to others through exposure to infected blood and tissue. CJD is a degenerative neurological condition which is invariably fatal. As the disease progresses muscular co-ordination diminishes, the intellect and personality deteriorate and blindness may develop.
