This is often a chronic, often relapsing condition. Symptoms include widespread muscle and joint pain, severe mental and physical exhaustion, poor concentration, headaches and sleep disturbance, all of which can be exacerbated by minor activity. No cause has been identified but some viral infections or stresses can often trigger onset. Complete recovery is possible; however there is no recognised treatment other than complete rest.
