A mole is a birthmark or naevus containing pigment. Moles may be large and disfigured. They can be harmless (benign) but some may undergo malignant change and any alteration in size, colour or shape should be investigated. Malignant moles require surgical removal and follow up radiotherapy/chemotherapy ( See Skin Cancer )
