Major Organ Transplant

Serious disease or injury can severely damage the heart, lungs, kidneys, liver or pancreas. In some cases, the only form of treatment available may be to replace the damaged organ with a healthy organ from a donor. This is a major operation and the tissues of the donor and patient must be matched accurately. For this reason a patient could be on a waiting list for a long period waiting for a suitable organ.
