Osteoarthritis relates to inflammation of the joints including a loss of cartilage and overgrowth of the bone. Osteoarthritis is the most common chronic condition of the joints. It occurs when the protective cartilage on the ends of your bones wears down over time. The most common sites are hands, knees, hips and spine. It is generally a disease of the elderly but can occur in younger people secondary to previous joint injuries. Unless severe and widespread it is of little concern for life cover once rheumatoid arthritis has been excluded.
