Pneumonia

Pneumonia is a common illness and is caused by an infection in the lungs.  It has many causes including bacteria, viruses and many other organisms with varying symptoms, signs and severity ranging from minor to life threatening.  Prognosis is dependent upon the individual's immune function, the cause, severity of infection and treatment success.

Facts

Pneumonia affects up to 11 in 1,000 adults each year. It is more common during autumn and winter.
