While most simple fractures normally result in a full recovery, injuries to major joints such as the hips, knees, back or neck can cause significant disability and give rise to arthritis in later life.

In Ireland in 2018  there were 142 fatal collisions resulting in 149 fatalities on Irish roads. This represents an increase of 1% in collisions and 4% fewer deaths compared to provisional Garda data for the full year of 2017
