First Degree
Affects the outer layer of the skin only (epidermis) causing redness and pain. Generally heals within one week.
Second Degree
Extends to the superficial (papillary) and deep (reticular) dermis causing redness, blisters and pain. Generally heals within two - three weeks.
Third Degree
This is the most serious as they extends through the entire dermis and destroy the full thickness of the skin.
